24 THINGS I HAVE LEARNED AT 24

Monday, December 25, 2017

Today I'm turning 24! Yay! And I thought to celebrate I would write a post, about what I've learned throughout the years.

1. FRIENDS COME INTO YOUR LIFE FOR A REASON, SEASON OR LIFETIME
Drifting apart from people is always hard, but I have come to learn that some friendships aren't made to stay forever. Sometimes friends come into your life because you go to school together or work together. Other times it's because you and your friend went to summer camp together. Lastly it's because you have a connection like no other friendship and your bond is so tight, you will never let each other go.

2. SMOKING DOES NOT MAKE YOU LOOK COOL
Ever since starting my education within the health sector, I have learned and seen first hand what smoking does to your body and it's scary!

3. FEWER VERY SOLID FRIENDSHIPS, IS BETTER THAN MANY SUPERFICIAL FRIENDSHIPS
Having a handful of friends you can have really deep meaningful conversations with and who you know will always be there for you, as you will be there for them, is WAY MORE meaningful than having a bunch of friends you can only talk about the weather with and random gossip.

4. LIVING ON YOUR OWN MAKES YOU VERY INDEPENDENT
I have lived on my own for almost 3 years now, in a city where I don't have any family around. This forces you to do things on your own and fix things yourself and that has made me very independent.

5. TRAVEL AS OFTEN AS YOU CAN
Experiencing new cultures is one of the most amazing things you can do in your life. You learn so much about yourself, different cultures and different people.

6. BE GOOD TO YOURSELF
I have been dealing with low self worth for the longest time and telling yourself you aren't good enough, is not a good way of life. Treat yourself, like you would treat others. Give yourself time to relax, feed your hunger, spend time outside, treat your skin and hair, be around people, use your muscles, learn new things, just be good to yourself. You only have this one life, why not be the best version of yourself?

7. BE NICE TO OTHERS
Treat others, the way you would like to be treated yourself. It's that simple, don't be a jerk for the heck of it, be nice.

8. ALWAYS HAVE GUM IN YOUR BAG
Gum is just a lifesaver, before a job interview, after lunch, when you are going on a date.. just whenever!

9. IT'S NOT PERSONAL, THAT A**HOLE IS JUST HAVING A BAD DAY
Sometimes you're just in the wrong place, at the wrong time.

10. THE OLDER YOU GET, THE FASTER TIME FLIES BY
I remember so clearly when I was younger, before turning 18, how I thought the month of December always took forever! I just couldn't wait until Christmas. Now ever since I turned 18, every single week just flies by and it flies by faster and faster the older I get. This is just a reminder to enjoy every single day, because life is too short.

11. YOU CAN DO WHATEVER YOU PUT YOUR MIND TO
I have been wanting to lose weight for the past 6 years, and instead of losing weight I just kept gaining weight, but around april this year I decided it was going to happen. I was sick of feeling like shit everyday, I want to be healthy and live a long life, full of happiness and now I have slowly lost some weight and I'm still going strong. So whatever you really, really deeply want, you can get it, if you stay focused and work for it!

12. BEST WAY TO AVOID DRAMA, IS AVOIDING THE PEOPLE WHO CREATE IT
I hate drama, it always makes me feel horrible and naturally with the years, I have become a pro at avoiding it, without even thinking about it. Life is so much calmer without drama.

13. LISTS ARE LIFE
Whenever I have something important to remember I always make a list, either on my phone or the old school way on paper. Having something written down, just makes it way more easier to remember.

14. POTATOES ARE REALLY GOOD FOR YOU
I lost a good amount of my weight by mostly eating potatoes. Yes, they do contain a lot of calories, but you don't need many before you feel extremely full and satisfied.

15. COLLECTING TONS AND TONS OF MAKEUP IS JUST NOT WORTH IT
Within this year, I have really downsizes my makeup collection. I was spending way too much money on it and I didn't even use all of it. So I gave a lot of it away to friends and family and threw the old stuff out, I was hoarding and now I feel much better about it.

16. EMPTY SPACES IN YOUR HOME ARE MADE FOR PLANTS
If you like that minimal scandinavian look, while still having color and decorations in your home, plants are definetly just for you. On top of being a nice decoration piece, plants living up your space, and they're good for the indoor environment. Win-win!

17. IT'S BETTER TO BE BUSY, THEN NOT HAVING ANYTHING TO DO
Having plans with friends, family, yourself and in general a daily plan of things you have to achieve, is much more satisfying and evolving than doing nothing.

18. HAVING A BAD DAY, IS JUST A PART OF LIFE
You can't be happy all the time, because if you don't have any bad days, you won't know how it feels to have a good day, it's all about balance.

19. DON'T BE AFRAID OF CHANGE
Even though I like my routines and feel comfortable with what I'm used to. I know that change is a part of growing and evolving as a person. When people say you have to challenge your comfort zone to grow, I have experienced that that's exactly how you grow!

20. A SIMPLE WAY TO CREATE HYGGE, IS BY LIGHTING A CANDLE
This current internship I'm doing, has made me get a room in Esbjerg, to avoid the 2 hour train journey every morning and afternoon. The room I got, is just a basic room, with a bed, coffee table and a bathroom. Buying a few candles and lighting them up in the evening, immediately creates a "hyggeligt" environment and just like that, I feel more at home.

21. I FEEL THE MOST LIKE MYSELF WITH MY HAIR UP AND MY COMFIES ON
It's just one of the greatest feelings ever.

22. IT TAKES ME ABOUT A MONTHS TO GET USED TO SOMETHING NEW
My au pair year, moving, my education, interning and new things in life in general, just takes me a good month before I'm used to it.

23. ONE OF MY BIGGEST FEARS ARE WASPS
I've come to learn this by living on my own in a small apartment. Throughout the summer I slept with my window open and one morning when I woke up, a wasp had flown in and as it started flying closer to me, I freaked out and used my duvet as a shield. When I saw my chance to climbed down the stairs from my loft to the ground floor, I almost fell down the stairs in fear of the wasp! Phew!

24. THE MONTH OF DECEMBER WILL ALWAYS BE MY FAVORITE MONTH
To me, December is a month filled with candles, fairy lights, warm coats, good food, hygge, family, traditions, love, Christmas and of course my birthday!
